Alex Mecer
Franchise: Prototype
Canon: No
Custom Title: Less than Human, yet Something More
The Basics
Special Abilities
Alex's most obvious powers are his superhuman strength, speed and durability (both disease and physical). He is strong enough to lifts cars, helicopters, and tanks and throw them with casual ease. Alex is also very fast and agile. He can achieve running speeds at around 40-50 mph, and he can perform flips and rolls and maneuvers over and around vehicles and debris with little trouble. He can achieve a vertical jumping height of 8-10 stories and can leap across a whole city block in length. Alex is also capable of gliding in the air.
He is durable enough to survive direct hits from hellfire missiles and tank shells. He also seems completely unaffected from falls; even ones from the top levels of skyscrapers. He has displayed regenerative abilities powerful enough to allow him to reform from being turned to mush from a nuclear blast, so long as there is some source of mass to absorb. Alex can also see with Thermal vision and detect those who have been infected with the Blacklight Virus.
Alex is also capable of absorbing living creatures. This not only helps him heal from his wounds quicker, but also grants him the memories, knowledge, and skills possessed by his victim. He thus has the memories and skills of the hundreds whom he’s consumed.
However, Alex’s primary power is his ability to shapeshift. He can take the forms of the people whom he’s consumed, even recreating their voices and clothing. He can also use his shape shifting to form claws, whips, hammers, blades, shields, and armor. He can even use his shapeshifting to increase his muscle mass and improve his already vast strength.

Brief History [Spoilers]
The story of Alex Mercer starts back in the sixties, long before his birth. In the small town of Hope, Idaho, Scientists synthesized a virus they dubbed REDLIGHT. They brought military families of different nationalities into the town, telling them that it was a test in case of nuclear fallout. The families were happy to be injected with the REDLIGHT virus, unaware of what they were being injected with, and thinking they were greatly helping their country. People began to die rapidly and the virus was found to have a 99.999% mortality rate.
The virus found the perfect host in Elizabeth Greene, her genetic makeup was unique and instead of being consumed by the virus, she consumed it. Where others were rendered insane and only responded to basic instincts, she was able to withstand the virus and produce a new strain.
Military forces were forced to cleanse the town. For two days, the military fought the virus, overcoming the surviving infected and wiping out the town. Elizabeth Greene and a child she gave birth to after her infection were the only two survivors of Hope. Scientists locked Greene in a cell at GENTEK which had been formed to research the virus present in Greene. They continued to study the different strains of the virus that formed throughout her system as a means of accelerating the biological weapons program.
Alex Mercer was a scientist employed at GENTEK forty years after the destruction of Hope, Idaho. Scientists such as Mercer managed to synthesize a strain of the virus which they named BLACKLIGHT. They were trying to use it to cure diseases such as cancer. The scientists became suspicious, noting that a huge amount of the viruses had ill effects on testing animals.
As employees of GENTEK began to disappear, Alex Mercer decided that he was in danger. He took the vial of a BLACKLIGHT strain as insurance and fled GENTEK threatening to go public with GENTEK's activities, but undercover military operatives cornered him in a train station. This resulted in him breaking the vial on the floor seconds before he was gunned down, exposing thousands of people to the virus. The concentration of the virus consumed Alex's and copied him down to the genetic level. The virus believed it was Alex, but it had amnesia. "Alex" woke up in a morgue during an autopsy. Just before he ran out, he heard the name of himself and his sister, Dana.
After Alex found his sister, she found that they were holding Elizabeth Greene. Alex made his way back to GENTEK and rescued her. Unfortunately, her mind was dark and twisted. She broke open the wall and escaped into the city. Elizabeth used the remains of the infected to create hives, which in turn infected more people. The military took extreme action in an attempt to contain the virus.
As he fought against the military and infected civilians, Alex managed to track down and kill Elizabeth Greene. This left the infected without a leader and vulnerable to extinction. But that didn’t stop the sadistic General Randall from ordering a nuke dropped on the city. Alex got back up and consumed the General. He hijacked a helicopter and flew the armed nuclear missile away, dropping it into the sea. The bomb exploded and incinerated Alex. The virus successfully reformed and Alex was reborn. He then went on to purge the city of the infection and the military with brute force, re-establishing some resemblance of order.
But, before you get the wrong idea, Alex Mercer is no hero. He has no issues with murder, having amassed a truly terrifying body count. Alex also tends to murder innocent civilians for little to no reason and leaves a massive amount of collateral damage. He is extremely powerful and quite dangerous.
Sample Role-Play Post
No matter how long he would end up living, Alex Mercer knew that he would never forget the BLACKLIGHT virus. He’d watched firsthand as it infested countless people and downright almost wiped out an entire city. It was only with Alex’s intervention that the virus had failed to infect the entire world.
And now, after all the pain and suffering that it’d inflicted, scientists had once again started to experiment on it. Not GENTEK. GENTEK was long dead. BLACKLIGHT had fallen into the hands of Lex Corp. They were trying to do what the original Alex had been trying to do, namely find a cure to cancer. Apparently, Lex Luthor was trying frantically to find a cancer cure, being willing to sacrifice whatever lives were necessary. But Alex knew that it wouldn’t work. He knew that the virus would get out to wreak havoc on the world again.
That was why Alex had gone in. He’d consumed a scientist and used his form to infiltrate the facility which had been dedicated to experimenting with the virus. Once Alex examined the scientist’s memories, he discovered what the full horror of Lex Corp’s experiments. They’d been taking homeless people and illegal immigrants off the streets, infecting them with cancer, and injecting them with some altered form of BLACKLIGHT. Every test ended with the subject either dead or in a mindless zombie state.
Alex wasted no time in infiltrating the base. Once inside, Alex proceeded to destroy every sample of the virus. He freed any uninfected captives and killed everybody else that he came across. Man or woman, scientist or guard, everybody employed by that Lex Corp base was remorselessly slaughtered.
Alex Mercer was no hero. But he damn sure was not going to let corporations like Lex Corp repeat GENTEK’s mistakes

Weaknesses
Viral detectors are able to detect the Blacklight virus within Alex with considerable ease. With the proper technology, Alex can be tracked down quite easily by any enemies.
Alex is also vulnerable to a gas known as Bloodtox. Although he’s built up a resistance to the gas with time, the Bloodtox gas is still quite harmful to him and could potentially kill him if he’s exposed to it for a long period of time.
