Persephone, having lived a very sheltered adolescence, is not one to introduce herself to random strangers. In her life, she has not had very many friends because of her fear that people will use her for their benefit, or betray her trust and hurt her. Her father, who thought that Persephone was too good for the world around her, implanted this thought within her mind when she was a young girl. There is no ‘ego’ that Persephone has built about herself, though many would believe otherwise, due to her normally stand-offish nature. However, she is simply a shy girl around strangers.
Because of the love her father and Persephone shared with one another, she is a very kind-hearted girl. When she does get to know a person, she will often go out of her way to do kind things for them, which can often raise suspicions. Not very many people in today’s time contain the caring attitude for people that Persephone does, and it is her wish for all those around her to be happy that pushes her heroine tendencies. Whilst Persephone does not always have a smile upon her face, she does always do her best to make sure that everyone around her does. Her insightful nature helps her with this task.
Though Persephone is shy with people, her sheltered upbringing caused her to be quite curious about life and its adventures. She is always the first to jump at trying something new, and is rarely ever frightened by the risks of the unknown – unless, however, it could cause any damage.
[/blockquote]Extraordinary Features
Powers & Abilities
- Manipulation of Radio Waves – in order to explain this power, first one must explain the concept of radio waves themselves. Anything in the air causes a certain current, or wavelength, that is invisible to the human eye. Some examples of this would be ultra-violet rays, gamma rays, infrared, x-ray, etc. What Persephone can do is take these waves and manipulate them to her will.
- For example – every human lets off their own ‘waves.’ Persephone can take the waves of that person, manipulate them, and cause the person to think or behave differently – simply by altering their radio waves. Or, to go to something more comprehendible – she could manipulate the ultra-violet waves around a person in order to give them a terrible sun burn, or perhaps burn off their skin.
- Persephone’s powers are wide reaching, and she can concentrate them well. She can manipulate the radio waves around her in order to fly, or still them around someone else in order to deplete their hearing for a time. Essentially, Persephone could easily turn a person insane with these powers – tampering with their mind, senses, and all the things around them.
- Minor abilities that may not be thought of, yet can be useful are: Ability to heat water, to corrupt mercury, to freeze things, to use her voice as a hypnosis factor AND to transfer her own feelings, via her OWN radio waves, into another person.
Weaknesses
- In a physical sense, Persephone is not very strong. She cannot run at great speeds, or pick up things that are 10 times her body size. All her power exists in the radio waves around her which, conveniently enough, exist everywhere.
- Persephone cannot stand to go long periods of time without using her powers. When a child, her father attempted to cut her off of her powers, and begged her not to use them. If Persephone does not use her powers for an extended period of time, the radio waves around her will manipulate themselves and crush her – killing her.
Biography
The Role-Player
- Current Residence: Metropolis
Persephone was born in a small town in western Nebraska. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her loving father had taken it upon himself to raise the girl alone on a small ranch in the country. They lived a small life, but a good life, until Persephone turned 5 and her powers began to emerge. It was small, at first – water boiling before she put it on the stove, hay randomly setting on fire, getting harsh sunburns on a cloudy day. It quickly progressed, though, and Persephone’s father began to worry very deeply for her safety. He had hurt of people being used for their powers, or other citizens turning against those who were gifted once they knew of how they were, and that was not a life that he wanted for his young Persephone. So, the man built a small house out of the top of his barn, and there Persephone spent most of her time – hiding whenever someone came near, or locking herself in there when her father went to town. It was a life of secrecy, but Persephone did not hate it – for she had a father who loved her, and a fair life.
Her powers were not the easiest to hone, but she learned to do so, and she did it all on her own – slowly testing each thing and learning how to control it. It wasn’t long before Persephone could successfully fly by altering the radio waves around her, and successfully cook an entire meal without using a single stove. After a while, her father stopped fearing her power and began to accept it, but he still didn’t trust the outside world to know of the power she contained within her. There was no opposition on her end, until around the time she turned 15, and she found that she had a strong passion for music. Without tampering with the radio waves around her, Persephone could sing a beautiful tune, and play the cello with amazing skill. She found that, when she did alter the radio waves, she could mystify all beings around her. Often nights she would sit at her window, playing her cello and singing a haunting melody – altering the radio waves around her, attracting the attention of wolves, cows, and other wild life that would sit in awe below her window.
When Persephone told her father of this dream, he was completely against it at first – telling her that the world was full of dangerous people who would manipulate her and use her. For many years, she lived with the fact that she would never be able to follow her dream, and spent each day up in the lonely room of the barn. Persephone grew to be a beautiful young woman – with long auburn hair and fair blue eyes. She was thin, but not very tall. There was a startling beauty about her, even Persephone knew it, but she knew that no one would see her – up in that room all by herself. In time, though, after she had completed the required classes for a homeschooling education, her father’s age began to wear on him. It was slow, at first, a tightening of joints when she was 16 – then a stroke when Persephone was 18. While most teenagers would have left for college at this age, Persephone stayed with her father, attempting to take care of the farm as well as nurse him back to health. Doctors came and went – strangers to Persephone that she shied away from – but there was little they could do for an aging man. One morning, when she was 20, Persephone woke to her father crying – as she had been sitting beside him all night. In Persephone he confided that he had done a terrible thing by hiding her from the world, and told her that he wished she would travel the world, become a famous singer, and live her life to the fullest. He told her he loved her, and that he was proud of the amazing young woman that she had become… and with that, he died.
It was heartbreaking, but Persephone knew that it was time to move on to a new chapter in her life. Persephone cut her hair short to signify the change in her new life, and attempted to put a small flare on her personality – to match her new surroundings. Packing up her clothing, Persephone moved to Metropolis – a place of heated nightlife and unending action. For the most part, she worked small jobs – singing in night clubs, bars, fancy hotels, but Persephone always knew that she would stumble upon her future someday. She just has yet to find it.

“Don’t let it go.”
Hitting the final note of her song for the night, Persephone stepped away from the microphone and gave a small curtsy as she was washed with applause. It only lasted for a short while, though, because her act was up and she had to get off the stage so that another musician could have their 15 minutes of fame. Sashaying her way down the stage steps, Persephone made her way to the bar of the club. It was a nice place – dimly lit, with tables instead of a dance floor, and a wide bar that was rimmed with barstools.
“Not bad, honey.” The bartender said, handing Persephone a drink. She was an older woman with worn skin and a stern look on her face, but her eyes held a kind nature to them. Persephone smiled, taking the drink from her. “How’d a pretty face like you end up here?”
“A pretty face only gets you so far when you aren’t willing to use it to disgustingly morbid advantages. I like to sing, so I followed my voice.”
“Ahh,” The woman nodded, moving back down the bar to fill another order. Persephone sighed, setting down her drink as she moved to sit on one of the barstools. People looked at her from the tables, occasionally pointing and whispering. She was used to that, though, and she tossed her auburn hair lightly to show that she didn’t give much of a care to what they thought. The world was a dangerous place – the weak would never survive, sadly, and Persephone knew that. It was that simple logic that drived her each and every night – to different areas in different clubs, letting her voice bring its listeners pure joy if only for that one moment.
Setting her glass back down on the table, Persephone slid from the stool, smoothing her skirt for a moment before heading to the door of the club. It was only her first stop on many adventures that night, and Persephone had no time to waste enjoying the pleasantries of life.
