Powers & AbilitiesWeaknesses
- Artificial Intelligence: Every ring has a connection to the Main Battery on Qward, which taps into Parallax. It acts as an "on-board computer," telling the wearer what they need to know. It can either respond out loud, or silently directly to the wearer's mind. The AI contains a large database of information that may be crucial to a "Sinestro's" success. The ring also translates nearly every language to and from the wearer, which is why the Corps can communicate with each other. When the bearer of a Sinestro Corps ring dies, the ring will seek out a suitable replacement for their sector, someone capable of instilling great fear.
- Communicator: The ring can act as a personal communicator between Sinestro Corps members.
- Energy absorptions:The user can absorb and store most forms of energy.
- Translator of languages: The ring can translate languages so that the user can understand.
- Energy Beams, Bubbles, Force-Fields, and Blasts: The rings can also project beams, form protective bubbles and force fields, and fire destructive blasts. The power ring can contain immense amount of forces.
- Energy Constructs: The rings can construct anything the wearer can imagine from hard-light energy, as long as they are willing to make it. The more determined the wearer is, the more complex and intricate these things can be. The constructs can even be so complex as to form working machines, computers, and even people.
- Flight: The ring allows the wearer to fly in atmosphere or in space, and can achieve light-speed, moving from planet to planet in a matter of hours.
- Mirages: The Ring can create mirages/illusions. This would often be used to create images of monters or other horrific creatures or tableus.
- Phasing: The ring allows the user to go through walls.
- Probing: The ring can probe the Lantern's or another person's mind, allowing him to uncover memories or the person's thoughts, often to use them against to instill great fear.
- Recharging: The rings need to be recharged by means of a Power Battery. Other large sources of power may be used to recharge a power ring, however effectiveness may vary. The internal power source of a Manhunter Android is, in effect, the same as a power battery, and can be used to recharge a power ring. As a member of the Sinestro Corps recharges their ring, they generally quote the Sinestro Corps oath:
“In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light
Let those who try to stop what's right,
Burn like my power... Sinestro's might!”
- Sinestro is a bit on the sensitive side when it comes to his pride. Take one step in his Pride range and he'll blow up like a volcano at the ready. He hates to be taken for granted and will act on his own terms, sometimes getting the best of him, causing his defeat.
- Sinestro is a bit on the frail side, being mostly full on brain power and relies on his ring, his physical abilities are on the low side.
Biography
The Role-PlayerThaal Sinestro (his first name was only recently revealed in 2010's Blackest Night) was born on the planet Korugar in space sector 1417 (as the Guardians designate space). His dedication to preserving order originally manifested in his previous career, an anthropologist specializing in reconstructions of ruins of long-dead civilizations. One day while he was on one such a site, a Green Lantern named Prohl Gosgotha crashlanded into the site, injured, and apparently dying.
- Current Residence: Sinestro has no home at the moment.
He quickly gave his ring to Sinestro, just in time for Sinestro - who barely even understood what the ring could do - to defend himself from the Lantern's pursuer, a yellow-clad Weaponer of Qward. However, Sinestro had to destroy the very ruins he had spent loving care restoring, to crush the Qwardian. Afterward, Gosgotha turned out to still be alive, and asked for his ring back to keep him alive long enough to get help. Sinestro, knowing this would mean not being a Green Lantern himself, allowed him to die and took over his post - the Guardians unaware of his actions. In Green Lantern #45 we see, for the first time, his wife in a flashback and that it is, in fact, the sister of Abin Sur, Sinestro's best friend.
His desire for order did well by him in the Corps and led him to be considered one of the greatest Green Lanterns. As the years passed, he became more and more fixated upon not simply protecting his sector, but on preserving order in the society of his home planet no matter the cost. Eventually he concluded that the best way to accomplish this was to conquer Korugar, and to rule the planet as a dictator.
When Hal Jordan joined the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro was assigned to be his instructor. Jordan was horrified at his new mentor's totalitarian methods, though Sinestro maintained that his iron-fisted rule was necessary to protect his people from alien forces. During his training, Jordan helped Sinestro repel an attempted invasion of Korugar by the alien warlords known as the Khunds. When Jordan called for help from the other Green Lanterns, Sinestro's dictatorship was exposed and he was forced to appear before the Guardians for punishment.
Katma Tui, the leader of a Korugarian resistance movement who felt that Sinestro's "protection" kept her people from growing as a society through contact with other alien races, was recruited as his replacement in the Corps. Though Katma Tui eventually grew into one of the most respected Green Lanterns, she and the rest of Korugar initially resisted her appointment to the Corps; due to Sinestro's actions, Korugar had come to consider the symbol of the Green Lantern Corps an emblem of terror and oppression.
For using the power of the Green Lantern to instill fear rather than combat it, the Guardians banished Sinestro to the anti-matter universe—a counterpart to the "real" universe made up of "negative matter." Sinestro ended up on the Anti-matter world of Qward, the counterpart of the Guardians' homeworld Oa, which was ruled by a race of warriors and scientists known as the Weaponers of Qward, who bore a fierce hatred of the Guardians and all Green Lanterns. By exiling Sinestro to a world ruled by evil beings who specifically hated him as a Green Lantern, the Guardians hoped to humble him. However, their attempt at punishment would be a major miscalculation. Sinestro believed himself to have been wronged by his former masters, and now hated them just as much as the Weaponers did. Through their mutual hatred of the Guardians, Sinestro and the Weaponers became allies, with the Weaponers offering to help Sinestro gain revenge on the Guardians and the Corps.
Creating a yellow power ring for Sinestro to use, the Weaponers sent him back to the "positive matter" universe to seek his revenge. Sinestro quickly became the Green Lantern Corps' most powerful nemesis, partially due to a weakness in their power rings that prevented them from directly affecting the color yellow. Despite this, skilled Green Lanterns like Jordan, Sinestro's most hated enemy, always found ways to defeat him.
Before the Guardians took a leave of absence from their universe to attempt mating with the Zamarons, they constructed an inescapable prison for Sinestro and thousands of others on Oa. However, Sinestro's cunning prevailed once again and he managed to free himself through the mental manipulation of the Mad God of Sector 3600. Now wielding nearly unlimited power, Sinestro murdered entire star systems until he was finally subdued by the Green Lantern Corpsmen of Earth. Now guilty of multiple acts of genocide, Sinestro was put on trial again by the assembled membership of the Green Lantern Corps. Finding him guilty, they condemned him to death and executed him, but Sinestro managed to cheat death itself by sending his essence into the Central Power Battery, and shut it down. While in the Battery, he also made a startling discovery about the ancient weakness to yellow within the Green Lantern's light.
Hal Jordan entered the Battery to desperately try and restore the powers of his fellow Lanterns, and ultimately defeated Sinestro, whose spirit was condemned to remain trapped inside the Central Battery, powerless, for eternity. Yet Sinestro had earned an even greater personal victory: the so-called "Yellow Impurity" turned out to be a sentient entity known as Parallax, the living embodiment of fear. He also discovered the battery's power source was Parallax's green counterpart, Ion, the embodiment of willpower. Thanks to Sinestro's actions, Parallax had successfully infected Jordan's mind, leaving the so-called "greatest Green Lantern" vulnerable to fear for the first time in his life and setting up Sinestro's ultimate triumph.

- Sample Role-Play Post:
"Earth?!" Growled the toned voice of Sinestro as he flew with great speed to the large blue and green coated planet. Clouds coated it like mist to a cloud. It was a large planet... a big ball of dirt with nothing but weaklings that resided on it as their home. Whatever it was, Sinestro had that gut urge to make his way towards Earth.
"I cannot believe I am visiting such a filthy mudball of a planet..." He huffed as his arms stretched out before him and the bright yellow light emitted before him and streamed behind him, as if he was a falling star, right towards Earth. The heat from the entrance of the Earth's gravitational pull was not so painful to the average...astronaut or someone of that caliber. The power of the ring was enough to protect him from just about anything. Simple atmosphere heat wouldn't harm him a wink.
After moments of flight time and passing by an aircraft at huge speeds, Sinestro felt himself grin widely as his small mustache on his upper lip seemed to curl. He had a feeling at this point, no matter what his gut told him, his reasons for being here and so on, there was going to be great fear introduced to this planet...and he was the one to let it out. Just the thought on that made him smile more. The more fear the more power. The more power...the more the ability to control...Power was what Sinestro lusted after. More then anything. Fear helped him gain a great deal of it, but there was nothing wrong with a little bit more. Humans are so frail and weak. Easy to strike fear in to their very hearts and souls. All it would take is a little spark and what's fate will happen. Only Sinestro hoped he'd be the one pulling the strings.
As he felt himself see the sights of the land below, he quickly flipped to where his feet would meet with the ground and with the power of his ring, the speed slowed to a halt and with a small pat, he had landed on said, Earth. Small brushes of dust met with his landing as he seemed to have made it in a dustier part of the planet. "Well well....it's about time this Planet got it's fear's worth.." He grinned, giving a crack of his knuckles.
